Law firm accelerates Estates team growth plans with five new appointments
12th October, 2021
Howes Percival has expanded its Estates team in the East following a ‘robust’ period of recent growth.
The team, which specialises in advising high net-worth families and business owners with their Will, Trust and estate planning and has a particular expertise in farms and landed estates, has reported a significant growth in demand across its estates and private wealth offering, driven in part by the conditions over the past 18 months and the current regulatory framework which has encouraged families and business owners to ensure their legal affairs are in order.
Tony Jones (Senior Associate) joins from Tees Law as Tax Manager, Emma Pocknell is appointed as an Associate and joins from Steeles Law, Joseph Keeping (Associate) joins from Clapham & Collinge and Ying Mac joins the firm as a Tax Assistant. Meanwhile, Georgina Jones has been appointed as a Paralegal and joins from Birkett Long.
The Howes Percival Estates team is recognised as one of the largest in the eastern region and is particularly known for dealing with high value and unusually complex family and business succession issues.
The Estates team has recently been awarded a top tier ranking in this year’s edition of The Legal 500, the authoritative guide to the UK’s leading law firms. The independent guide named three of the team’s partners as being ‘leading individuals’ for Personal Tax, Trusts and Probate in Norwich with Hall of Fame recognition for Catherine Scott in Agriculture and Estates.
Tony advises clients, including trustees, personal representatives and beneficiaries, in connection with their tax affairs. He also prepares trust accounts and estate accounts, completes Self-Assessment returns and other HMRC forms and assists the wider Estates team. Tony is a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians.
Emma specialises in a wide range of private client matters including the preparation of Wills, Trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Deputyship Applications and Administration, Trust Administration, Administration of Estates and Estate Planning. Emma is the current Vice President of the Norwich and Norfolk Junior Lawyers Division.
Ying prepares accounts, manages financial transactions, deals with tax queries and assists the tax team more widely. She also has experience working with VAT, client tax returns, bookkeeping and financial accounts.
“The level of work across our private client services group has remained robust against a background of wider global economic uncertainty. We are delighted to be in a strong position to accelerate our exciting growth plans to expand the teams in the East, where our estates and private wealth offering is at the core of the firm’s strategic ambitions.”
