Charities

While charitable and fundraising activities take place regularly for a variety of charities and community initiatives, each of our offices selects a local “Charity of the Year” to support.

Jimmy's Cambridge

For 25 years, Jimmy’s has been providing help to people experiencing homelessness in Cambridge. They work with local people, communities, organisations, and partners to deliver 24/7 emergency help, support and accommodation 365 days a year for those who would otherwise be sleeping rough.

MK Food Bank

The Food Bank provides emergency food parcels to local families and individuals who hit a short term crisis.

MK Food Bank relies entirely on donations of food and money from local schools, churches, businesses, organisations and individuals and every single item or penny given makes a difference.

In the first 6 weeks of 2022 MK Food Bank gave out more than 2,500 food parcels. This is around 10% up on last year – and rising. It also means that they are running dangerously low on all core food items.

Nelson's Journey

Since 1997, Nelson’s Journey has been supporting children and young people in Norfolk with their bereavement needs, helping them to understand and cope with their feelings. The charity also supports professionals in the county who work with children, such as teachers and health workers, to help raise awareness of issues affecting bereaved children.

Nelson’s Journey’s vision is that every bereaved child in Norfolk will look forward to a positive future, empowered to reach their full potential.

RSPCA Woodside Animal Centre

For over 135 years, the RSPCA Leicestershire Branch has been caring for mistreated, abandoned and neglected animals in Leicestershire and Rutland. Based at the Woodside Animal Centre site, they are a local independently registered charity. Receiving no Government or regular funding, they rely on the generosity of their supporters and the public to help fund their work to improve animal welfare in the region.

To make a donation to Woodside Animal Centre, please visit our JustGiving page here.

Trussell Trust

Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and together provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

In the UK, more than 14 million people are living in poverty – including 4.5 million children. Trussell Trust support more than 1,200 food bank centres in the UK to provide a minimum of three days’ nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis, as well as support to help people resolve the crises they face.

Between April 2019 and March 2020, food banks in the network provided a record 1.9 million food supplies to people in crisis, an 18% increase on the previous year and during the coronavirus pandemic food banks have seen need rise even further.

Partnerships

We recognise our responsibility to make a positive impact on the areas in which we work and are proud to be associated with the following organisations:

The Careers & Enterprise Company

Howes Percival is proud support young people in East Anglia by becoming one of The Careers & Enterprise Company’s Cornerstone Employers.

Regular, meaningful encounters with employers is an absolutely vital part of preparing and inspiring young people for the world of work. We know that this kind of support means young people are less likely to be not in education, employment or training (NEET) when they leave school.

Becoming a Cornerstone Employer means we are committing to working together with our networks, the wider business community and schools and colleges to make this happen in East Anglia.

Norwich for Jobs

Norwich for jobs is a network of local employers, charities and organisations volunteering with the aim of getting young people the skills and experience they need to get into work.

Howes Percival supports the initiative in several ways including running mock interviews, providing training on CV writing and by holding workplace tours and presentations.

We were delighted to receive the Norwich for Jobs’ Silver Award in 2019.
