Discrimination - Increased Compensation for Injury To Feelings

The “Vento Bands”, which detail the compensation due for injury to feelings awards, increased for all claims issued on or after 6 April 2019, in line with the RPI All Items Index. The new bands are:

Band	Previous	New Vento Band
Lower – for less serious cases	£900 - £8,600	£900 - £8,800
Middle – for serious cases which do not merit being in the higher band	£8,600 - £25,700	£8,800 - £26,300
Upper – the most serious cases	£25,700 - £42,900	£26,300 - £44,000
Exceptional cases	Over £42,900	Over £44,000

“Claims for injury to feelings are designed to compensate claimants for the discrimination they have had to endure. The claimant does not need to have incurred financial loss and, depending on the circumstances, such awards can be significant.
