Event Date: Tue 9th Dec 2025
Join us for a series of bite-sized webinars designed for legal and operational business leaders. Each webinar will focus on a topical theme, combining the legal landscape with a practical output based approach to keep you informed and prepared.
The second theme in our series is dealing with cyber attacks. It is an inescapable fact that cyber attacks are on the rise. A record 204 nationally significant cyber attacks were handled by GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre in the year to September, up from 89 in the previous 12 months. Such attacks can have a significant impact on a business with it being recently reported by the BBC that M&S profits for the first half of the year were almost wiped out by its recent high profile cyber attack having plummeted 99% from £391.9m to £3.4m for the first half of the year, compared with the previous year.
In this session, our experts will explore what you should do when faced with a cyber attack both from a technical and regulatory perspective.
What You'll Learn:
- What steps you should take by way of emergency response when faced with a cyber attack
- Strategically whether you should prioritise short term pain or, as far as possible, ‘business as usual’
- What you should do from a regulatory and legal perspective when faced with a cyber attack
Due to unforeseen circumstances, our original guest speaker is no longer able to join the session. However, we are pleased to share that we will instead be joined by Tash Buckley.
Tash is a Lecturer in Cyber Security at Cranfield University and an Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute. She is a recognised researcher in national security, emerging technologies, and research security policy. Her work examines how technological disruption reshapes strategic, legal, and institutional spaces, combining qualitative, creative, and narrative-led methodologies to explore complex sociotechnical systems and the evolving boundaries between technology, power, and institutional identity. Tash has led high-level policy engagements, contributes regularly to leading think tanks, and is a frequent commentator on national security issues, including appearances on BBC News.
