Funeral wishes have come a long way from the simple question of “burial or cremation?”. These days, people are thinking outside the ‘coffin’ shaped box.
If you are looking for inspiration, or just a reminder that funerals don’t have to be entirely solemn affairs, here are a few of the more unusual requests that we have come across.
Diamonds are forever
Have you ever fancied leaving your loved ones a sparkling keepsake? You can have your ashes transformed and compressed into a diamond. The carbon from your ashes is extracted and used to create a gemstone to be set into jewellery, providing a glamorous way to be remembered.
Final flight
Your ashes in space. It is now possible to have your ashes sent into space. Several companies will launch your ashes aboard a rocket to orbit Earth and even send your loved ones a memorial video of the journey.
Back to Nature
More and more individuals are choosing to leave the earth in an eco-friendly way. Whether this be by woodland burials in biodegradable coffins or human composting to help new life grow.
Going out with a Bang
Perhaps the most spectacular send-off, you can now have your ashes incorporated into fireworks. You can have your family gather for a personalised display of colour in a farewell bid. After all, why settle for ordinary when you can plan a send-off that’s as memorable as your life?
As fantastic as these ideas are, it is important to record your funeral wishes properly. Whilst funeral wishes in a Will aren’t legally binding, they are highly persuasive and usually followed by your executors. At Howes Percival, we can help you record your wishes clearly and ensure they are achievable, whether this be a traditional service or a firework-filled finale.
