Howes Percival has appointed banking expert, Ian Ilersic, as Banking and Finance Partner. Ian has worked in both private practice at leading city law firms and more recently as Head of Legal at Deutsche Bank in Birmingham. He will be based in the firm’s Milton Keynes office and will form part of Howes Percival’s national Banking and Finance team.
Ian has a wide range of experience in domestic and international corporate banking and real estate finance matters. His expertise also covers acquisition finance, invoice finance and securities lending. Ian advises both borrowers and lenders.
Ian’s appointment is an important part of Howes Percival’s national Banking and Finance growth strategy. Two years ago, the firm decided to restructure its Company Commercial team to create three dedicated services lines within one team – Corporate, Commercial and Banking (CCB).
The restructure was a result of increased instructions in each of these areas and a recognition that by developing dedicated service lines the firm would be able to offer a more specialist service to clients. It also formed a key part of Howes Percival’s strategic aim to be the go-to law firm for each of the key markets it operates in.
Commenting on Ian’s appointment, Daniel Banton, Partner and Head of Corporate at Howes Percival said
“I’m delighted to welcome Ian to the firm. He is a well-respected and talented lawyer with private practice and in-house investment bank experience. Ian is well placed to understand the needs of Banking and Finance clients and help us develop even closer relationships.
“Ian’s appointment to our Milton Keynes office recognises the importance the city holds as a banking hub as well as our commitment to investing in MK and developing our offering in and around the region. Ian’s arrival is the first step in an exciting year for CCB in MK, with another senior Corporate Partner due to join in the spring. These appointments, coupled with our expanding teams in Leicester, Norwich and Cambridge, are testament both to the deal flow that we are currently servicing and our ambitions to grow further in each of our locations.
“Recent successes with improved bank panel positions has resulted in a big increase in the volume and quality of our instructions from both lenders and borrowers. Ian’s appointment deepens our expertise on complex banking finance matters and, allows us to continue to deliver the exceptional service clients have come to expect from us.
“A key part of our Banking and Finance strategy is to improve our ranking on other banks’ panels. Part of Ian’s role will be to work closely with our other Banking and Finance Partner, Haydon Simmonds, and the team to secure new opportunities for acquisition finance, real estate finance, general corporate banking and invoice finance work.”
Howes Percival was recommended for 20 different practice areas in the 2020 edition of The Legal 500 which recognised its Milton Keynes office for a number of services including corporate and commercial, commercial property, employment, intellectual property and media and entertainment.
